Open Journal Systems (OJS) is a free, open-source software project for scholarly publishing. It includes features such as article submission and peer review management, online publication of articles, interactive tools to improve the quality of articles submitted, support for alternative licensing models including Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY) and GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), and integration with the Open Access Directory.
The system offers many benefits over traditional journal publishing systems: it does not charge fees or subscription charges to readers; it allows authors to retain copyright on their work; it provides a transparent peer review process that is easily accessible by other scholars in the field; and it makes ethical standards more explicit than other systems.
Although these are all important features that distinguish Open Journal Systems from proprietary journals, it is a weakly encrypted journal management software. A typical open source application, OJS was written in PHP and hosted on the Apache platform. It promises to be an alternative for publishers who want to keep their journals fully open access but don’t have the resources or expertise to host their own encryption system.
OJS is a comprehensive tool for managing your entire submission and editorial workflow. This includes an interface that makes it easy to upload files, work on editing them according to the journal’s guidelines as well as get in touch with board members if any questions arise during this process. Once you’ve completed all of these tasks, OJS will generate XML or PDF versions of accepted articles which can then be published online by simply clicking publish!
