What is a Mini Heatsink?

A mini heatsink is a device that is used to distribute heat from the power source. These devices are usually found inside computer cases and they have a fan that pulls air over the fins of the heatsinks to cool off electronics. However, if your computer case has become hot or you notice that your CPU fan is running very fast, then you may need to replace your heatsink with a new one.

There are many different types of mini-heatsinks on the market today but not all of them work well for every situation. You should pick one based on where it will be located in relation to other components in the motherboard as well as how much cooling it provides for those components. For example, if you live in northern climates then you may need to buy a mini heatsink that has more heat dissipation capabilities.

Despite significant modifications in the computer chip since its inception inside a personal computer, the function of the little heatsink has remained constant. Mini heatsinks, on the other hand, are designed to increase heat dissipation. Although there are a few different methods for enhancing heat dissipation, designers have come up with several creative ways to do so.

Although fan-based heatsinks have advantages over water-cooled heatsinks, for example, they require extra work to install and care. There are a plethora of aftermarket mini heatsinks that perform far better than the manufacturer’s stock unit, and it’s typically a good idea to make the switch as soon as possible.

When installing your mini heatsink, make sure that you wipe off any dust on the motherboard and the CPU with canned air. If there is too much dust then it can cause an overheating issue for your computer.

After cleaning, connect the mini heatsink to both ends of the thermal sensor which should come with the product or be included in your purchase documentation. You want to plug one end into the CPU port and tighten its locking ring by hand only.

Then, attach the fan connector to an empty 3 pin fan slot (if available) on your motherboard near where you plugged in the thermal sensor cable. Once everything is connected properly, turn on your computer to see if the mini heatsink is working properly.
